Office Policies

Emergencies

If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room prior to contacting our office. We are an outpatient facility. We do not provide urgent or crisis care or 24 hour care. All appointments must be scheduled in advance; we do not see walk-in patients.

Communication

If you are a current patient, we ask that you use the patient portal for all routine matters such as appointment scheduling or requests, prescription refill requests, billing questions and other non-urgent questions. We will make every effort to respond within one business day. All critical, time-sensitive, appointment-related, medically related, crisis related or otherwise urgent, important communications where a response from your clinician is requested MUST go through administrative staff during normal business hours. We do not provide care by e-mail, text or other forms of communication.  We will not and cannot change your treatment plan without a scheduled visit or scheduled telepsychiatry visit.

Appointments

Appointments can be requested by telephone or through the patient portal. By Texas law, I must see my patients every 90 days in order to continue treatment or more frequently if, in my clinical judgement, closer monitoring is needed. Automated Follow-up Appointment Reminders via e-mail and text are offered as a courtesy only.

Cancellations

Advanced cancellation notice of more than 24 business hours not including weekends or holidays for all visits is required. We understand that schedules can change, but because our visits are by appointment only, when someone misses an appointment, it creates a missed opportunity for another patient to be seen. You may cancel an appointment through the portal or by telephone. Voicemails are time and date stamped. Monday appointments must be cancelled by Friday in order to avoid charges. Appointments can be cancelled by the clinician if the patient is more than 10 minutes late to their appointment. You will be charged half the cost of the appointment. Insurance will not cover missed appointments.

Prescription Refills

Refills are provided during your appointment time. You must be evaluated regularly to evaluate efficacy, adverse effects, make adjustments, monitor safety. Do not make any abrupt changes in medications without first consulting with your clinician. If your pharmacy informs you that a prior authorization is needed, notify us.

Financial Policies

Full payment of co-payment, co-insurance, applicable deductible or self-pay is expected at the time of service. In the case of divorced parents, the parent bringing the child in for the appointment is responsible for payment unless prior arrangements have been made. Payments may be made via cash, debit card, credit card and Health Savings Account cards.  Payments via credit card may be made through our patient portal. If my practice is not in network with your insurance, we will provide you with a superbill which you can submit to your insurance company to request reimbursement for services from an out-of-network provider.
